Guizhou: more than 100 geographical indication protection products help poverty alleviation

The reporter learned from the Information Office of Guizhou Provincial People's government that up to now, 118 products in Guizhou have been protected by geographical indication products, which is three times higher than that at the end of the eleventh five year plan. The number of product protection ranks fourth in the country, and 184 enterprises have been approved to use special marks for geographical indication products.

Li Lingui is a kiwi grower in Xiaoba village, Xiaoqing Township, Xiuwen County. He grows the well-known "Guichang" kiwi fruit. He said that the 420 Mu Kiwi planted in 2017 brought more than 700000 yuan of income and also led to the employment of 30 workers in Xiaoba village.

"In the past, kiwifruit was planted with low price and no market. Since it was protected by national geographical indications, kiwifruit has matured without worrying about market and its income has increased greatly." Li Lingui said

It is understood that the protection products of geographical indications in Guizhou involve eight categories of products such as wine, tea, traditional Chinese medicine, fruits and vegetables, grain and oil, livestock and poultry, processed food and handicrafts, covering most of the traditional advantageous industries in Guizhou Province. It has formed a number of geographical indication product brands with international and domestic popularity represented by Guizhou Maotai (554.75 + 1.96%, diagnostic stock) wine and Duyun Maojian tea, with an annual direct sales revenue of nearly 60 billion yuan.

Guizhou Province proposes that by 2020, there will be 150 geographical indication products, 5 national geographical indication protection demonstration areas and 10 provincial geographical indication protection demonstration areas in the province.
